According to the Policies and Procedures for the Valley Symphony Orchestra (VSO), all new musicians performing either as contracted or substitute musicians with the orchestra must audition prior to the season during a regularly scheduled audition. This audition will fill vacant positions in the orchestra and/or determine if a musician is added to the substitute list.

Excerpts are marked in brackets. Please follow the tempo, dynamics, and articulations penciled in each part. In addition, each participant must be prepared to play a solo of their choosing.
Musicians auditioning for strings positions (permanent or sub list) and who are located more than 150 miles away may choose to submit an unedited video audition. Please perform the excerpts as noted in the audition PDFs and submit a link (Vimeo, Youtube, or platform of your choosing) of your recording and your resume to email@example.com no later than the required date (TBA). Links only please - full video files may not be submitted. Please be sure your video is clear with acceptable audio. VSO may decline video auditions that are not of a reasonable audio or visual quality.
Section pay is $68/service (up to 5 services per concert cycle). VSO pays mileage for musicians traveling from 100 or more miles away, 50 cents/mile up to $150. VSO provides double occupancy hotel accommodations for musicians traveling from 100 or more miles away.
