The 2021 gala event, Bravo! VSO, will take place May 7, 2021. This will be the Valley Symphony’s first gala in the McAllen Performing Arts Center and our grand return to live performance. The gala committee is currently planning for the event with safety and flexibility in mind.

The evening will take place at the McAllen Performing Arts Center. An elegant and inventive socially distanced dinner is planned, followed by the awards program taking place inside the hall. The VSO will present the Cultural Leader award and other honors. Maestro Dabrowski will then present Pasión Primavera, a one-night-only concert of Latin favorites by Piazzolla, Santana, Quincy Jones, and more.

2021 Cultural Leader of the Year

For their dedication to the arts in the Rio Grande Valley, the VSO is pleased to award KRGV Channel 5 the Cultural Leader of the Year award. By televising the VSO’s digital season, KRGV has made it possible for more than 70,000 people to view the VSO concerts.

KRGV Channel 5 is an ABC-affiliated television station based in Weslaco and serves the entire Rio Grande Valley. The station began broadcasting in April of 1954. Today, KRGV serves more viewers across multiple television and digital platforms than any other television station. KRGV provides news in English on CHANNEL 5 NEWS and in Spanish on AZTECA VALLE to provide important information for everyone in the Rio Grande Valley in the language they prefer. In addition to being a trusted news source for the Valley, KRGV is also a community partner to many non-profit organizations. KRGV and its employees are proud to call the Valley home!

 

In this year of safety reinventions, we’ll be holding our silent auction online and offering an elegant and socially distanced meal. Safety protocols, including mask-wearing, will be adhered to at all times.

FAQs

Will we be socially distanced? In all likelihood, yes! We are working to create seating plans that make the most sense with safety in mind.

Will the MPAC be filled to capacity? No, there is decreased capacity for this event based on state and local reduced capacity models.

Will mask-wearing be required? We will follow all city, state, and federal recommended protocols at the time of the gala. The safety of all our guests is our most important consideration. We will provide updates as needed closer to the event.

Is it safe for the musicians to play in the orchestra hall? Current research points to safety when it comes to musicians playing instruments onstage. The musicians will be socially distanced and no wind instruments are programmed for this event.

What is the cancellation policy? In this extraordinary year, we know flexibility is key. If you are unable to attend the gala because of exposure to Covid-19 or another public health c0nsideration, we will offer you a full refund.
