You are cordially invited to the Valley Symphony Orchestra’s annual gala event. DIVAS OF THE SYMPHONY will honor our long-time friends, patrons, and champions of the Valley Symphony Orchestra, Medardo M. and Debra Pérez as the 2019 Cultural Leaders of the Year. This year’s Gala will take place in the Ballroom of the McAllen Convention Center on Thursday, February 7, 2019.  All proceeds raised that evening will benefit Valley Symphony Orchestra music and education programs.

Dr. Nina L. Torkelson is this year’s 2019 Honorary Gala Chair.  A family practice physician in Harlingen, Texas, Dr. Torkelson graduated from the University Of Texas Medical School at Houston in 2006 and has more than 12 years’ experience in the field of medicine.

Dr. Torkelson and the Gala Event Committee have planned an extraordinary evening and request your presence at 6:30 p.m. for a complimentary champagne and wine reception featuring a Bucket Auction for luxury items from local merchants and partners. Limited tickets for the Bucket Auction will be sold.

Immediately following the cocktail hour, guests will enjoy an elegant seated dinner with white glove service and the Cultural Leaders’ award ceremony.

Maestro Peter Dabrowski has programmed a special command performance featuring 23 women musicians of the VSO. Longtime VSO violinist Diana Seitz will be the Concertmistress and lead the ensemble through an exciting musical program including pieces by Piazzola, Poulenc, and more.  This one night only performance by the elegant and gifted Divas of the VSO is a can’t-miss special event.

The Valley Symphony Orchestra Cultural Leader of the Year Award has been traditionally given to an individual or individuals in the Community who have supported the Symphony both financially and personally over the years. These individuals have also demonstrated a commitment to the Fine Arts that includes other Arts Organizations as well as the VSO. This year we will be honoring our first Corporate Cultural Leader of the Year, Frost Back. For the past 17 years, Frost Bank has graciously committed to sponsoring the VSO Holiday Concert, aptly named "A Touch fo Frost." We are deeply grateful to Mr. Raymond Jenkins, Frost Bank Regional President and Mr. Ruben Bosquez, Senior Vice-President of Sales for this level of support. The "Touch of Frost" VSO Holiday Concert has been the most popular and well-attended concert of the VSO Concert Season and a gift that the entire community appreciates and enjoys. According to Mr. Jenkins, Frost is delighted to support the VSO because the Symphony positively impacts both the educational opportunities and the quality of life in our community. Frost is proud to have been a strong supporter over the years.
