- "A Touch of Frost" has been the VSO's annual holiday concert for more than 10 years and is supported by (and named after!) Frost Bank.
- The VSO Chorale, conducted by Dr. Sean Taylor, director of Choral Studies at UTRGV, features more than 100 singers from the community. They will sing several selections on the concert, including one that is "a cappella," or voice only, with no music accompaniment.
- The concert features Huapango by Jose Pablo Moncayo, a Mexican pianist, conductor, and composer. Huapango is known as the second, unofficial national anthem of Mexico and is performed often by Mariachi ensembles as well.
- "Sleigh Ride," is the most-often performed holiday song by orchestras across the country. Listen carefully for the percussion instruments making the clip-clop noise of horses trotting and the trumpet imitating the horse's whinnying at the end of the piece.
Celebrate the holiday season with Frost Bank and "A Touch of Frost," the VSO's annual holiday performance. The Orchestra will perform seasonal favorites such as Sleigh Ride and Feliz Navidad, and will also be joined by some very special guests -- including Santa! Celebrate our rich border culture with UTRGV's Ballet Folklórico dancing alongside the Orchestra to the exhilarating Huapango de Moncayo, Conga del Fuego Nuevo, and more. The Valley Symphony Chorale also joins in on the holiday cheer, performing selections from Handel's Messiah as well as some show-stopping a cappella selections.
